Jesus warns his disciples to be careful around the teachers of the law. They offer good teaching but do not practice what they teach. If we are to walk with Jesus we must be aware of not only our words but also our actions. How we position ourselves before God, one another, and the world matters. A Jesus-shaped church humbles itself now to be exalted in the not yet.

At the end of the Ordinary Time lies a season focused on the future time when God will intervene decisively in human history, bringing judgement to the wicked and salvation to the faithful. It’s in this space that we live in the tension of the “now” and the “not yet”- recognizing His goodness in the “now” while we hope and anticipate the “not yet.”
